Do you have a coffee bar set up in or by your kitchen? I never really did until I took part in the 12 Day of Christmas Blog Hop and created a hot cocoa bar. I love it! But I couldn’t keep it all year. I looked for a cute tray but none of them was the right size. So when I went to my booth one day I noticed a tray that just didn’t sell. I decided to bring it home so I could update the coffee bar to a farmhouse look.
As I mentioned the tray was around forever. The top is painted in chalkboard paint and I painted the bottom in zig zags. I used the tray to display the smalls. When I brought it home I decided the zig zags aren’t me.
This was a very quick update since I decided to keep the chalkboard. It was just a matter of painting the bottom. I had some white paint and cream paint already mixed with Poppies’ Furniture Paint Powder. I didn’t want the white but I didn’t want cream. So I mixed the two together and it was just right.
I painted the bottom with 3 coats of thinned paint. Now that is good coverage since the black is no longer visible. A coat of wax and the tray had a new look. When I did the first makeover on the tray I added the little feet. I wish I had a before the before picture. I vaguely remember a weird picture on it.
I still have the cocoa mix but put it in a plain jar. Some days I put it in my coffee instead of sugar. In place of the candy canes I put the spoons in a crock I picked up years ago. And then the sugar is in the sugar bowl.
And since the top is in chalkboard paint I decided to get out a stencil and write where the cocoa, sugar, and spoons belong. It would look better if I had a chalk pen, I used regular chalk. Just dampen the chalkboard and complete your drawing for a crisp look.
To update the coffee bar to a farmhouse look from a Christmas Hot Cocoa bar is that easy. I sure wish I didn’t sell the Coffee Sign I made.
