One of my favorite things to do is to paint furniture. I find if I’m not working on a painting project I feel like something is missing. And I love it when I find a piece on the curb. Curbside finds usually are a challenge since there is something wrong with it. These Are My 5 All Time Favorite Curbside Finds.
I have had many of them, even before I started blogging. It is amazing to me what people drag to the curb. Now admittedly some of the pieces are not the most expensive but with a little imagination and ingenuity anything can be revived and made beautiful.
The first curbside find I wrote about after starting the blog are the chairs my neighbor told me about. I remade them into a bench. I really love this project and really need to do more like it. The problem is I don’t have much room in the garage to spread out. Because of all of the furniture waiting for a makeover.
Now I can get lost going around the block.
The time I found this cabinet, I was glad I did. It is a quality piece that was on a busy street so I had to park the car in a parking lot and haul it to the car. And was it heavy but I was determined that table was coming home with me! And it did.
As I think some of you know, I sell most of the furniture makeovers at the booth, Shoppe No. 5. I also have a part time job working in an office 2 days a week so after work, I go to the booth on back roads.
Well, I have lucked out 2 times at the same property. The farmhouse table was missing its top and had a broken foot but that didn’t stop me. It doesn’t look the same, does it? Then I bought the 2 chairs at the Habitat Restore. I think is makes a nice set, don’t you?
I also have great luck in my own neighborhood, as I mentioned.
The chair wasn’t actually at the curb but it was destined for it. I just wanted to make sure I got it so I knocked on the door. It is really one of my favorite finds.
My most recent curbside makeover is the sofa table.
I love how my friends either call, email or knock on my door to let me know of these discarded treasures.
OK, I said 5 but I must include the rocker my friends, Bob and Kathye found. It took some work but it looks good now.
So if you see a piece of furniture on the curb it truly can be remade into a treasure. Will you stop the next time you see a piece of furniture on the curb?
