The other day I became inspired by an inspirational quote that a good friend has said to me many times. As things happen I thought how perfect to paint a sign using that quote. That is how scrap wood made into an inspirational gift came about.
I found a nice piece of wood and sanded it to clean it up.

I already knew what I wanted the little sign to say. Decisions had to be made for the font and size. Now you know I don’t have a cutting machine. I do the next best thing and use the computer. I decide on the font and size, type it and print it out.
This isn’t the first time I have made small signs from scrap wood. Other signs I have made had inspirational words. Some had a Halloween theme. Others were for Valentine’s Day.
I kept the wood natural. I used my friend’s favorite color, a beachy blue.
To transfer the sayings “I’m Not Lucky I’m Blessed” and “Everything Will Be Ok”. Use a small piece of graphite paper. I taped it around the wood. Tape the saying on top of that. Use a pencil or pen to trace around the letters. Take a careful peek to make sure you traced it all the way around. Ask me how I know that!
Time to paint the inspirational saying. Now I used paint and a paint brush, and don’t shy away from that. You can train yourself to paint. If you feel more comfortable you use a paint pen. Allow one side to dry. Tackle the other side. Lightly sand. The final step is to wax it.
My friend is going to put it in her craft area or by the dining room table. Wherever she puts it the size is perfect for her space. The best part is you can make it any size. Scrap wood made into an inspirational gift is just the right thing to let your friend or loved one know you are thinking of them. Do you think you will be trying it?
