I’m not a good spray painter, but I am getting better. But I need a lot more practice, with the paint sprayer and can spray paint. So for this vanity bench it was to spray or not to spray. I decided not everything needs to be spray painted.
I didn’t have enough spray paint of the color I wanted to match the fabric for the seat. Or so I thought after I hand painted the frame.
I turned to Dixie Belle paint because it works on metal, which is what the frame is. You can see my other Dixie Belle Paint projects here and here.
Before I started to paint I wiped it free of sawdust and cut little pieces of wood to fit on the bottom of the legs. They were glued down with glue.
The vanity bench frame is painted in Drop Cloth and once again I am so impressed by the coverage. Given this is a vanity bench and I expect it will be used in the bathroom, I wanted to make sure it would hold up. Clear Coat in the satin finish was used to give it protection. After it dried I came back and painted on the Gator Hide. The Gator Hide protects and repels water, not gators as the label says. I just love that. Maybe because I have gators in my neighborhood.
So the next step in this project is to redo the actual bench. After I removed the cover and the original vinyl I hosed down the foam and sprayed cleaner on it to freshen it up. Then I let the sun dry it thoroughly.
It didn’t have batting around it but I did cut out a layer to wrap around the foam and then stapled the material to it. I was able to reuse the lining that was on the bottom of the seat to give it a nice finished look and I called it a day. This project taught me that not everything needs to be spray painted. It really depends on the look you are going for.
