Do you need a delicious recipe for an appetizer that you can whip up in minutes? One that is elegant and you probably have all if not most of the ingredients? Then I have just the recipe for you. Make a delicious topping for Brie Cheese.
I use to have Brie Cheese toppings very similar to this recipe. I searched the internet to order them and just couldn’t come up with anything. And some other easy to make appetizers are the cocktail hot dogs and cheesy sausage wontons.
So fast forward to this holiday season when it was my duty to provide the appetizers. As we all do I turned to Pinterest. Lo, and behold I found a similar recipe from Cupcakes and Kale Chips.
What I like about this recipe as well as being delicious and it is so easy to literally throw together. I had bought the Brie thinking we would just eat it plain. I had everything I needed to prepare the topping and what a difference a topping makes.
This recipe is forgiving and you can add or subtract. I have made it two times now. You can use honey or maple syrup. I used honey both times but plan to try it using the maple syrup.
The first time I used a combination of chopped pecans and walnuts. The next time just chopped walnuts. And to make it festive I added dried cranberries. So let me give you the recipe so you can make a delicious topping for Brie Cheese.
Brie Cheese Nut Topping
- 8 Oz. Cheese
- 1/2 Cup Chopped Nuts Walnuts, Pecans or both
- 2 Tablespoons Honey or Maple Syrup
- 1/4 Teaspoon Cinnamon
- 1 Pinch Salt
- 1 Cup Craisins Add more or less to taste
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Place Brie on a heat resistant serving dish. Use a sharp knife to cut into the rind on the top of the Brie about a quarter inch from the edge. Do not remove the rind.
Bake 15 minutes or until the cheese is soft and melted.
While the Brie is baking, add the nuts to a small pan and toast until slightly brown. Be careful not to overcook.
Add the honey, salt, cinnamon, and Craisins to the nuts and stir until coated.
Remove the hot Brie from the oven. Remove the top rind from the cheese. You can use a sharp knife.
Pour the nut mixture over the Brie cheese. Serve with your favorite crackers, apple slices etc.
This can also be microwaved. Just cut off the top of the Brie cheese and place in a microwaveable safe dish. Top with the nut mixture and set the microwave for 3 to 5 minutes or until the cheese is slightly melted and bubbly.
