It’s a rustic pumpkin patch and I will tell you how to make one for yourself. Once upon a time I had wood landscape edging all around my flower beds. So inspiration struck and I decided if I took one off the wire hooking them all together it looked like a pumpkin. I gave the little post a wash of orange craft paint and painted on a pumpkin face in black. Next step was to find a twig and glue it to the top. I made more. Then I hot glued some floral moss, wood chips and straw to top of the heads. Craft glue will work also but take longer to dry.
Now I like to decorate with pumpkins during the fall months so I usually turn them around so the face isn’t visible in September and November. For this post I decided to up it a notch and drilled a hole in the top of the wood.
Then I color washed the wood with orange craft paint. I had to patiently let the paint dry so I decided to find green leaves to use on this pumpkin.
I used what I had so I know the leaves are not pumpkin leaves but this is a rustic pumpkin not a real pumpkin so I am ok with that. I also cut off a few pieces of rope I had from another project. I unraveled them and stuck them in the drilled hole. Then I stuck in 3 leaves. Remember to put the wood glue in the hole. Then I stuck the twig in the hole and I have my rustic pumpkin. It is such a fast and easy project that you certainly can make a rustic pumpkin patch in no time at all.
I bought the edging at Lowes so it should be readily available either there or any garden center. Don’t you think this would be a fun craft project to do with the kids after you drill the hole?
