We all love throw pillows, don’t we? I am so excited to share the one I just made with you. How to sew a cozy pillow from a sweater is so easy and cute.
Actually making the pillow cover is an afterthought. I used my sweater for another project which I will share with you soon. Since I had a large piece left over I decided why not.
All you have to do is cut off the body of the sweater, making sure it will fit the pillow insert. Now my sweater fit perfectly so I didn’t need to sew the sides.
The next step is to cut a piece of sweater that is the same width as the sweater. What I mean is I took a piece that was nearer to the top of the sweater. So the neckline was a little narrower than the body. The one I cut is about 2 inches long but I think 3 inches would be better. Set the sewing machine on a zig-zag stitch and sew around the piece. Set it aside for a minute.
Turn the sweater so the right sides face each other. Sew along the cut edge of the sweater. Turn right side out.
Cut six pieces of ribbon about 12 inches each. On one side of the opening sew a ribbon on each side and one in the middle.
Now it is time to sew the piece that was set to the side. Layer the ribbon on top, making sure it lines up with the ribbons on the other side. Pin it to the ribbed top of the sweater. I sewed it about ½ inch from the top.
Put the pillow form in the pillow. Tie a pretty bow. If there are some gaps sew the snaps along the edges.
Now fluff up the pillow and enjoy. How to sew a cozy pillow from a sweater is so easy. Go rummage in your sweater drawer and make a cozy pillow.
