Do you love a good challenge? Like you think how to make patriotic decorator spheres from balls. There was plenty of fabric left from the sparkly fat quarters when I made the wreath. So I figured I had nothing to lose. I went to the Dollar Tree and got 3 balls in different sizes and gave it a try.
The first thing I did was spray paint the balls. For the navy blue fabric, I sprayed the ball navy. The other two were sprayed in white.
While the paint was drying, I made patterns from cardboard by measuring the circumference of each ball. Then I divided the number by half. I drew a line and then a curve meeting at the tip of each end of the line. The first one I made was to fat and the ball was lumpy. I gave it to the cats to play with. I had to go get another ball since 3 is the magic number when decorating.
Once I figured out the pattern it was easy. Cut out about 5 pieces of material for each ball. On the wrong side of the fabric, brush Mod Podge in the center. Put the piece on the ball and smooth out.
For the next step, cut slits towards the middle on each side of the material. Apply Mod Podge to the ball and smooth out on either side of the tab. Then smooth that so the fabric lies flat on the ball.
Repeat until the ball is completely covered. Put more Mod Podge on the top of the ball and let dry.
Can you believe how to make patriotic decorator spheres from balls is that easy? I think they look cute in the tiered tray I made. What do you think?
