Welcome to the first 2018 monthly Pinterest Challenge Blog Hop, hosted by My Pinterventures. The purpose of this Pinterest Challenge is to motivate all the participants of this hop (and you too) to not just pin, but to make it happen! So for this 1st month, I chose to make an orb from embroidery hoops as shown by LollyJane. How to make an orb from embroidery hoops, a Pinterest project is something I have been wanting to try for a long time.
We all love to pin but do we have a chance to actually make the project or try the recipe? I was so happy when Erlene of Mypintervetures.com created the 2018 monthly Pinterest Challenge. I have been dying to make an orb. My friend who has been giving me so many of her craft supplies gave me a bagful of embroidery hoops so I was ready.
The first thing I did was to select 2 sets of hoops that are the same size. Now looking back I would have decided on how to finish them before putting it together. I didn’t because I wasn’t sure if it would work.
But it was so easy!
The next step I did was to take two of the hoops without the hardware and put them together so they are perpendicular to each other.
I penciled a mark and then put wood glue on the mark. Use painters tape to make sure the two hoops don’t move. Walk away and let it dry.
Ok now the 2 hoops are dry take the 3rd hoop and place it in-between the 2 you put together. Once again mark it and then use glue to secure the hoop.
Now to me the next step was a little tricky, but I got it. Unscrew the hardware and put the hoop around the 3 rings, making sure the hardware slips under the hardware on the other hoop. Screw it back together, tightening it enough but so it doesn’t break. I also dabbed glue on the bottom so it wouldn’t slip.
Now as I said I will do the finish first but on this one I decided to stain it after the fact. I also stained the hardware to make it blend. I am sloppy so you know I got it all over myself.
After the stain was dry I took a tack and put it on the bottom where the 4 hoops meet. You can paint the tack to match if needed. Press it in. If you don’t have enough strength take a small hammer and tap the inside of the orb where the tack is very gently.
That is all there is on how to make an orb from embroidery hoops. Why did I wait so long? I love it. Do you think you will give it a try? I already have stained more hoops to make some more. I am hooked. Now be sure to scroll down and see some other inspiring projects created from their Pinterest inspiration.
