Back in April when I wasn’t thinking about Flag Day or 4th of July I saw some sparkly fat quarters. I had to buy 3 that coordinated. Then it was like “why did I buy these? What am I going to do with them?” Well, I thought and thought and decided how to make an easy peasy patriotic denim wreath is the perfect way to use the material. After that, the ideas started coming.
Today I am joining a talented group of bloggers who blog about all things that sparkle. This month we are celebrating the upcoming 4th of July. So bring on the bling and enjoy.

I took a walk to Dollar Tree to buy the wreath ring and a ride to Hobby Lobby for the stars. This wreath was going to be made.
The stars come in 3 different sizes and I had 3 different patterns to work with. Decoupage each fabric on 4 large stars, medium and small. Now I didn’t worry about painting the stars so the wooden edge shows. It isn’t noticeable. But you can paint it to match the fabric if you want too.
To decoupage, the stars use a fine point Sharpie (after I traced this star I switched to the fine point Sharpie) and trace around the star. Carefully cut out the star and brush Mod Podge on the wooden star. Place the cutout fabric on the star and smooth out. Repeat for the number of stars you decide to make.
The next step is to cut the strips of fabric. I decided to use a pair of denim jeans I hadn’t worn in a while. Ok, I will admit it, they were tight, to begin with, and I know there is no way I will ever fit into them again (I have cut out the sweet stuff so I am losing weight). I outgrew another pair of jeans and made placemats. But back to the project.
At first, I started cutting the strips of denim 1 ½ inches by 4 inches. The 1 ½ is too thick for the denim. I ended cutting the material about ¾ inches by 4 inches. It works perfectly. I made a template 5/8 inches by 4 inches and then cut the strips in half. I used the template for an idea but didn’t stress if the pieces were a little bit bigger or smaller. Use the rotary cutter and mat to make life easier.
This part is great to do when you are binge watching a good show. I cut the pieces of denim and tied the fabric on the wreath ring. And cut some more and tied them. Do whatever it takes to get through this part. It is tedious. For the wreath hanger, I used a belt loop. Thread it through the top wire and stitch it in place.
Putting it together goes by fast. Once I figured out the star placement. I decided to place them in a random pattern at the top of the wreath. Although the top can be the bottom or the side. Hot glue the stars in place.
This is the first fabric wreath I have made. How to make an easy peasy patriotic denim wreath won’t be the last one I make. I kind of like it. Do you think you will give it a try or have you already made one?

Really cute patriotic wreath, Deborah! I’ve never made a fabric wreath before either but seeing yours has definitely inspired me to give it a try. Pinned 🙂
Thank you, Marie. With Canada Day just around the corner, it would be perfect.
Oh what a fun wreath! I love anything denim, and this wreath tuned out so pretty. I have two of the same fabric remnants that I purchased before Memorial day and just never got around to my project.
Thank you, Linda. Isn’t the fabric so pretty? It is to bad the sparkle is so subtle and doesn’t show up.
Very fun and perfectly patriotic! Great use of old jeans. Visiting from Beautifully Made party.
Thank you, I was glad I could upcycle the jeans.
I like that you used denim for the fabric! Looks great! Thank you for sharing on Merry Monday! Hope to see ya next week!
Kim
Thanks so much, Kim.
This is such a fun wreath for the 4th. Great use of the denim!
Thank you, Beverly.
Debra this is a really clever idea. I love the way you created the stars and added them on like that. Denim is also one of my favorite materials and really defines the USA so it is only fitting to add that to this pretty wreath.
Thank you, Mary. I really enjoyed working with the denim.

Thanks so much, Michelle. I appreciate it.
I smiled when I read how you bought your quarters and then thought now what? Its fun to just daydream about what you could make and your final product turned out really cute. Enjoy your upcoming holiday.
Thanks, Leanna. Sometimes I get to enthusiastic when I see craft supplies.
Debra, this looks like a wreath I’ve always wanted to make, but never got around to. Torn fabric strips really make a cute wreath and the decoupaged stars are an adorable addition.
Thanks, Florence. It was so easy to make. You will need to give it a try.
