This can be the companion piece to the dog leash holder but then again it can stand alone. Today’s project is how to make a simple key holder. Or a leash holder if you prefer. How about a towel or robe?
I happen to have this little board. When I bought it I remember thinking it looked like a little cabinet door. And isn’t it cute? Then I put it away and never came up with an idea for it until Karen gave me the two heart hooks. The one I used for the leash holder and when I saw this hook I decided what to do.
After I cleaned off the small board with Murphy’s Oil Soap I painted the front and back with the dark gray that Karen had mixed up. After the paint is dried, apply a crackle medium on it. I used some that I bought years ago at Sherwin Williams but it is not available. Old Fashioned Milk Paint carries it also.
Allow the crackle medium to dry according to the directions. Once it was dry I used the paint that I mixed up for the Valentine’s Day candle.
The crackle adds personality to the board. I love how each piece is different because of the crackle medium. Sand the board lightly and apply clear and then dark wax. The dark wax takes out the newness of it.
Before I applied the waxes I predrilled holes for the sawtooth hanger that goes on the back and the screw for the front to attach the hook. After the wax is buffed attach the hanger and hook.
Did I say how easy this is? How to make a simple key holder is an easy craft to make with plenty of farmhouse charm.
