With Mother’s Day just around the corner, I thought it is the perfect time to show you how to make a fancy jar for Mothers Day. It didn’t start out fancy. This isn’t even a mason jar. It is a plain old spaghetti sauce jar. And it is the perfect project for the Craft Room Destash Challenge.
This is a monthly challenge where a group of bloggers get together and create something from their hoard stash of craft supplies. We are allowed to spend up to $10 on supplies to complete the project. And for this project, I did buy a can of spray paint. And it is under $10.

I am in the habit of saving these jars because I have become obsessed with all of the different ways they can be transformed. It all started when I wanted a vase for last year’s Mother’s Day project. I didn’t have a mason jar and decided to paint the spaghetti jar instead. I became hooked and did a set for fall and used salad dressing jar for a Christmas vase.
As you know preparation is the key. So that means making sure the glass is squeaky clean. To begin with I soak the jars in hot soapy water and the label usually falls off. The next step is to pour alcohol on a paper towel and rub the glue off the glass. If the glue is still on the glass it is time for the big guns – Goof Off. Pour a little bit on another paper towel and rub. The glue should come off using those steps. Then I wash it again in hot soapy water and let the jars air dry. If you are really into it like I am you can prep the jars and they will be ready to go when you are inspired.
After the jar was thoroughly dry I spray painted the jar and lid. Don’t you love the color?
Now I had to pretty up the jar. We can’t have it looking like an old spaghetti jar, can we? I cut a piece of fabric that I am planning on using for pillow covers. It is so bright and colorful and picks up the color of the jar.
We are making flowers. Yes, another obsession. I love making fabric flowers. These are made this using the Cuddle Bug and flower die. I also used the same technique when I made a wreath. Use Mod Podge to stiffen the fabric. Any kind will do. I had a little bit of the Mod Podge for fabric so I used it up.
I stacked the flowers and tacked them together using embroidery floss. And a bead as the center of the flower. I glued 5 flowers around the jar. Then one on top of the lid.
A very easy project that anyone would love to have. How would you use it? I can see putting candy in it. How to make a fancy jar for Mothers Day is an easy craft. And pretty too.
Now be sure to check out all of the other crafty bloggers projects. This is one talented group. You will be so inspired.
