I feel like this has been a whirlwind month, don’t you? But it is time for the Pinterest Challenge and that is always so much fun. The Pinterest Challenge Blog Hop, is hosted by My Pinterventures. I recreated a pin that my friend, Jenny of Cookies, Coffee and Crafts created last month. She made Rae Dunn inspired blocks. I couldn’t help myself. How to DIY Fa La La Wooden Blocks became a great little something to give as a gift.
My friends and I go to a yearly event on the first Saturday in December. I was planning on giving them the Cookies for Santa ornament but needed a little something else for them. The minute I read Jenny’s post I knew I could get them done in plenty of time. It is small enough to bring to the office or decorate the RV.
I decided to use Fa La La. And as soon as my one friend saw it she said it is perfect because the minute she opens the door at work she sings Fa La La!
This idea is based on the popular Rae Dunn ceramics. I think it is the font and words that set them apart. The font is called Desmond.
I grabbed a piece of wood from the woodpile. If you want to do Fa La La, cut three pieces of wood, 3 inches square. Or any size you want to make. I made myself a smaller set 2 inches square. That is the beauty of this project, it can be any size.
I mixed up some chalk paint in a creamy white. Then painted the blocks. I don’t have a cutting machine so I do transfer the letters the old-fashioned way. I type it on my computer and transfer it to the wood. Use a Sharpie or a paint pen. I happen to have a black Sharpie so that is what I used.
Allow the paint or ink to dry so it doesn’t smudge. Then lightly sand and wax. That is how to DIY Fa La La Wooden Blocks. Aren’t they the cutest? When I had my booth I sold variations of scrap wood signs all of the time. They make a nice little gift, don’t you agree? Check out the fabulous projects my friends worked on.
