Going to the store I found a vanity, I was on my way to do my grocery shopping and saw this black vanity two houses down from mine. I decided to keep on going.
Then while I was checking out the fruit the thought popped into my head, “well if it is still there when I go home it is meant to be mine”. It was still there so I asked the neighbor if I could have it and she said yes.
The vanity was missing screws that hold in the hinge and the little thing a ma gig that allows the lid to go up and down. You know that doesn’t frighten me off. I took a field trip to Lowes for hinges and bought sparkly knobs at another store. I gave it a good scrubbing and then started in painting it with my DIY black chalk paint.
Once it was painted with two coats, I used a product I found at Lowes called Valspar Paint Crystals. It adds a little sparkle to the paint. The directions call for adding the packet to a gallon of paint.
I added about a sixteenth of a teaspoon to enough chalk paint to paint the interior of the vanity and around the mirror. It is very subtle and unfortunately didn’t show up in the pictures.
I waxed it with clear and then the dark wax. As I have mentioned before I feel using the dark wax adds depth. While working on this my friend called to let me know there was a chair around the corner I may want to check out. I did and it is a perfect match for the vanity so now it is a set.
I was able to use the original hinge, it just needed two little screws and as for the thing a ma gig… I used hinges in the back. One note, I ended up using silver knobs I had on hand. The ones I bought for this project broke. I am a bit disappointed but after I styled it for the pictures with my silver pieces I decided the knobs look just right. What do you think?
And to the shop the vanity and chair went and sold by the end of the day! HURRAY!
