I really wasn’t thinking about doing much for Valentine’s Day. But as I was working on some other projects I thought I would whip up a scrap wood signs for the booth. Believe it or not, they sell very well. I came up with a simple little Valentines Day sign using scrap wood and rubber cement. I did some for just because and Halloween. This is the first time I used rubber cement like this. Sometimes people like to buy a little pick me up.
I am a firm believer in using what I have. And I have scrap wood and leftover paint. In this case, I have leftover Old Fashioned Milk paint in cream and a pink that I made by adding a bit of the red until I got the color I wanted, I also added some Extra Bond since the color was mixed for another project.
This is so simple. Take a scrap piece of wood. You don’t even need to sand it, well that is unless it is really rough, I didn’t sand my pieces. Paint the wood in the color you want LOVE to be in. Exactly I know you are thinking why. Stick with me.
Let it dry. Use a stencil with the word already made up. I am using LOVE. Place the stencil where you want it and tape it down. The next step is to brush rubber cement over the word. Allow it to dry.
Take the other color you selected and paint over it. Let it dry. Then rub the rubber cement off the wood piece. If it doesn’t come out the way you want it then sand it off and start again.
The final step is to wax it. The wax will really make the word stand out. I experimented with painting the first color pink and then the cream.
Then I reversed it and painted the board cream and went back over it with the pink. The last one was the OFMP pink and I went back over it with cream craft paint. I ran out of the cream OFMP. I did a dry brush technique on it.
It is fun to play around with it to get the different effects. And it is a simple little Valentines Day sign to express your love.
