The other day a friend and I got together, had a wonderful lunch and stopped at a couple of stores. One of them was Good Will. This wooden tray is one of the items I got. I didn’t have a plan for it until I got home. And then I thought of a creative way to transform a wooden tray.
Lately, I have been in a neutral color palette mood. And I still wanted to do a tray using Old Fashioned Milk Paint. My other project didn’t work out the way I had planned. So I was going to try again using the combination of driftwood and light cream.
And I really think this tray is more suited for the effect milk paint gives.
But I wanted to make a sign and use the word Je T’aime. It is one of the few words I remember from taking French. It means I Love You. And I wanted to make the sign so it can be displayed all year round.
I selected a pretty font that is delicate and has flowers intertwined in the letters from my computer. Just perfect for a romantic saying. I played around with the size and printed it out. It is the same technique I have shown you before. Use the Saral paper to transfer it to the tray.
First I cleaned the tray with a solution of water and white cleaning vinegar. Then I painted the tray with the Driftwood to give it a base coat. And I did add some Extra Bond because I didn’t want to take a chance with the paint chipping off.
The next two coats of paint are the Light Cream. I really love that color.
After I transferred Je T’aime to the tray I used medium and fine tip paint pens in gold to fill in the letters. After that, I sanded it with a 400 grit sandpaper and waxed the tray.
So this really is a creative way to transform a wooden tray. The best thing about it is it can be used as a tray of course. But it can also be used as a sign. Just get a plate hangar and Voilà it is a sign! What do you think? Oh and by the way, if you like the Love Blocks I show you how to make them here.
